Learning from Preventable Deaths

The UK Parliament creates “Select Committees” to check and report on important issues. The committees use submitted evidence to see what needs to change and provide recommendations to the Government.

In January, the Health and Social Care Select Committee opened an inquiry into Prevention.

The Preventable Deaths Tracker team submitted evidence to the inquiry summarising our knowledge, research and concerns on preventable deaths. Our written evidence is now published: https://committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/118033/html/

We provided a Table that summarised 12 of our research studies, including preventable deaths involving cardiovascular disease, medicines, and preventable deaths during the covid-19 pandemic.

We provided six recommendations for the inquiry, focusing on the need to assess how PFDs and their responses are being used and implemented to generate learning and prevent premature deaths.

We shall keep our Substack subscribers updated on the next steps - stay tuned.
