The Ministry of Justice recently published data on death investigations in England and Wales for 2022. The data shows that coronial investigations are returning to pre-covid levels, with 36,273 inquests opened in 2022 - the highest number since 1995. But the number of coroners’ Prevention of Future Deaths reports (PFDs) being written remains low.
